Cold Weather Shooting
Now that cold weather is upon much of the country, shooting venues become somewhat more challenging unless you move indoors, or are blessed to live in temperate climates all year round!
The vast majority of my shooting is hunting-based, so I do venture out in the cold weather to pursure whatever game is in season at the moment. This time of year is where my PCP airguns really shine since they are much less sensitive to the temperature than my CO2 air guns.
One of the guns I reach for most often is the new Benjamin Marauder. With a 10-shot magazine and plenty of air on tap, I'm good for the entire hunt if my shooting is accurate. For extended plinking sessions outdoors I may bring along the air tank, but if I'm hunting, I just fill up and head on out. No need for a refill bottle to be packed along in a backpack. I just leave the 88 cf tank in the vehicle and venture forth!
Here are some more great PCP guns that Airgun Depot offers for the cold-weather shooter:
All the above mentioned guns run on high pressure air, and will be great for outdoors, cold-weather shooting.
Now, if you have the room and want to move inside, here are some products that will help you shoot inside in safe conditions:
Airgun Accessory Bundle - gives you a complete package of pellgun oil, pellets (specify caliber), a rocker pellet trap with 5 targets, a cleaning kit, and a pellet sampler kit from RWS.
Crosman Varmint Targets - put these on a box stuffed with old towels, and you're good to go.
Remember that steel bb's are a serious ricochet hazard, and eye safety is very important. I only shoot bb's at paper targets with a soft backstop that won't ricochet. For harder targets like steel traps, I use lead projectiles.
