I'm Planning a Hunting Trip

I'm headed down to Little Rock, AR for the Airgun Show that is held each year there. It is a wonderful time of visiting with friends, making new acquaintances, and poring over all the wonderful airguns that are on display. As an added benefit, after the show I will continue on over to Texas for a hog hunt using airguns.

This year I plan on using a Sam Yang Bigbore in .45 caliber. I will be shooting roundball out of it, and my hope is to take two small hogs with it that will be suitable for pit roasting. When you are going for a meat hog, bigger isn't necessarily better, so I'm hoping to keep the size of these hogs under 80 lbs if I can. That said, if I see a true monster that would look good on the wall, I may just shoot him instead and cook him a 1/4 at a time!

I will be joined by three other hunters who enjoy the sport of bigbore airgun hunting, and I hope to have a few pictures to share with everyone when I get back. The bigbore airgun hunting fraternity is a small one, and most of the guys going either have hunted before, or we know each other via conversations by e-mail and phone.

When you head out on a hunting trip, it's a good idea to write down everything you'll need. And if you can manage it, a backup gun is not a bad idea, either. I've almost always taken a backup airgun when hunting small game, but I don't always have access to another bigbore as a backup. However, with four hunters going, a backup gun should be available for everyone.

I'll let you know how it all turns out.....so stay tuned!

Hello,

Have you thought of leading airgun hunts? I love my 397 Benjamin, but that's the only firearm I've known. It would be great if you would lead us novices in the wild. I promise we won't scream.

Thanks,

Hi Skyler,
If I did this full time, I would certainly love to host some airgunning hunts....perhaps in the future it will be possible.

From time to time, Jim Chapman, Eric Henderson and I plan a trip for vidoe purposes. If the occasion arises to take guests, perhaps we could make something work out.

It was a tough hunt.....with 5 hunters along, and the pigs having been hunted constantly from October until now, it was some of the hardest hunting I've done. I managed to take one small hog, about 20 pounds (great eating size) with a shot from a custom-made 9mm airgun that I bought at the Airgun Show in Little Rock. My original plans to use the Sam Yang bigbore changed when the gun sold to someone who really wanted to get into bigbore airgunning.

In a dense thicket, with visibility limited to about 15 yards, and grass up to your mid thigh, I finally got my shot. The pistol did a great job, and as it turned out, I was the only one to bag his hog that day. Like I said, it was some very hard hunting conditions.

Since we don't have rabbit in the wild, we raise trhem and let them free on a private property as far and safe as possible. We use SHERIDAN's 22 and SUMATRA's 25. Is really fun and some are lucky enought to be there next yewar. Some even breed in the wild. It is always a surprice . We got some pigs roaming alone and wild, pheasant, turkey, some gamefowl of different kinds. This is a man made reserve just for airguners. Heavy forest, sloops, riverand some low weed planes make it a great place to visit. Is located at P rico, in a vasl land. Keep the secret. This year we are adding QUAIL ASSORTMENT. It not a dry place . I'll say a normal rainfall rate. It's has been open PRIVATELY for 3 years. Is almost new. Some of our "game' is that old. Some have breed and are wild and extra sensitive to any noices and smells. the trill of the hunt. I stand in a tree and wait . Is easier than walking, and I enjoy the poerace of the place. A new sport for the airguner, and a paradise in the Puerto Rico Island. Soon we will have our page ready .
